42nd Annual SPE BBQ Scholarship Fundraiser

When:  Nov 8, 2024 from 06:00 PM to 10:00 PM (AKT)
Associated with  Alaska Section

The Alaska Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is kicking off the 42nd year of their Scholarship Program. These scholarships are awarded to Alaskan students pursuing professional technical degrees that lead to careers in the Alaska oil and gas industry. The Scholarship Program is funded by a long list of Alaskan companies and individuals that understand the value of developing Alaskan talent for this industry. The fundraising effort culminates in a social BBQ event, which will be held this year on Friday, November 8th at the Viking Hall in Anchorage.

SPE Scholarship Program has awarded over $700,000 in scholarships to more than 400 high-performing high school and college students from Ketchikan to Nome pursuing degrees in engineering and earth sciences. Over the last 30+ years, our program has grown in statewide student awareness, quality of applicants and fundraising success.

SPE is an international technical professional organization with the primary mission of technical education and information dissemination, community education and outreach on oil and gas related issues. The organization is a qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit that relies on member volunteer efforts to accomplish our mission, and fundraising efforts to support our numerous activities. Our primary source of funds for the Scholarship Program is this annual BBQ event, with the remainder raised through SPE-sponsored industry conferences, an annual golf tournament, and technical short courses.

There are several ways to support the Scholarship Program BBQ event: cash donations are in greatest need as they directly fund the scholarships, while merchandise provides prizes for the silent auction and raffle. Our supporters are recognized as sponsors on our mailings, SPE website, in an ad placed in Petroleum News, and during the BBQ event. We believe that this is an excellent opportunity to assist in the education of our future leaders, while also gaining company recognition within the community. We hope that you will consider supporting us this year. If you can help, please fill out and return the attached form or feel free to contact us using the information below. We would also be honored to have sponsor representatives at the Scholarship BBQ Dinner event, which will be held at the Viking Hall, 8141 Briarwood St, on Friday, November 8, 2023. Social hour begins at 6:00 pm, BBQ at 6:30pm. Tickets to the event are $40.
