1) What is the role of Technical Sections in the SPE?

Greg: They thread the global SPE members along shared interests in common technical topics. They collaborate, exchange ideas, and work on projects through open discussions, webinars, and other events. This is core to SPE’s mission of connecting a global community of energy professionals to exchange knowledge, innovate, and advance their competence regarding the oil and gas and related energy resources to achieve a safe, secure, and sustainable energy future.

2) Congratulations on recently crossing 6 years at SPE. What were some of the key challenges, and what have been some highlights along the way?

Greg: In my 30-year military career, I had many roles, leading & managing both military and civilians, from the US and other countries. Taking care of people and helping them achieve their goals is second nature to me. My biggest hurdle was making the transition from the military way of doing things to a nonprofit where those I serve are all volunteers. I had to develop a new management approach, but the goal is the same, take care of those I support and help them accomplish their goals. Here, I have met some of the greatest people, including staff and members. I am in awe of their dedication, the time and effort they put into supporting SPE and the energy industry. I love being a part of it all.

3) What are some of your favorite things that you like to do outside of work?

Greg: I have a deep love of music from classical to punk rock and anything Star Wars and Star Trek related. I enjoy spending time with my wife of 46 years (we started dating as teenagers) and our three French Bulldogs.
