Jeffrey R. Bailey, SPE, retired as principal drilling mechanics engineer after 32 years at ExxonMobil, specializing in bottomhole assembly design, drill string vibration modeling, and fracture mapping analysis. He is now a wells advisor at Raise Group and is the Chair of the SPE Research and Development Technical Section. Jeff is an SPE Life Member, currently serves on the JPT Editorial Review Board, and was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer in 2020-21. Dr. Bailey holds undergraduate degrees in physics and economics from Stanford University and graduate degrees in mechanical engineering and technology policy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has authored or co-authored more than 30 SPE papers and 32 US patents.

Dr. Haoming Ma is a staff scientist and principal investigator at the Hydrogen Energy Research Center in the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources. Prior to that, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Center for Energy & Environmental Systems Analysis at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Ma received his Ph.D. from the University of Calgary in 2023. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer and Information Technology from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.Sc. in Energy Policy and Management from the Penn State University, where he also earned a B.Sc. in Energy Engineering with two minors in Energy Business & Finance and Environmental Engineering. Dr. Ma’s research interest lies in conducting Geo-Energy System Modeling and Analysis powered by machine learning methods and multiscale remote sensing data. His work addresses the interdisciplinary challenges of understanding the technological, economic, and environmental trade-offs within the geo-energy systems. Through this interdisciplinary effort, he delivers technical, socioeconomic, and policy insights that advance a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy future.

Steven Samoil, PhD, is a researcher and project manager specializing in ML/AI, quantum computing, and high-performance computing for optimization and numerical simulation. His PhD (University of Calgary, 2019–2025) developed a cloud framework for many-objective reservoir history matching using classical and quantum Bayesian optimization. He also holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering on contactless hand biometrics and a BSc in Computer Engineering. At the University of Calgary’s Energi Simulation / Meyer Collaboration Centre, he led quantum linear-solver prototypes for reservoir simulation, executed quantum-classical optimization studies, and built VR/AR immersive visualization tools for inverse problems, producing prototypes and publications. He secured $700k+ in research funding, managed collaborations, mentored students, and maintained compute and visualization infrastructure. Earlier, he built Java web applications in an agile environment. He publishes and presents on reservoir history matching, immersive analytics, and multispectral biometrics, and programs primarily in Python/C++ with Qiskit, HPC toolchains, and modern scientific computing libraries.

Charalmapos Soilemezidis holds a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering and works as a Systems Engineer on developing and optimizing innovative drilling systems. He has experience in research and development, as well as hands-on field work as an MWD × Directional Drilling engineer. Alongside his primary role, he runs CLS Engineering & Energy, a consultancy providing simulation and concept studies, with a focus on shallow geothermal systems. In this capacity, he supports municipalities and city councils in planning and realizing sustainable shallow geothermal projects.

Dr. Barati is the Don W. Green Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Director of the KU TORP (Tertiary Oil Recovery Program) (TORP) at the The University of Kansas. Across academia and industry, he has led multidisciplinary teams, built strong cross-sector collaborations, and advanced research that supports practical technology deployment. His background includes experience with organizations such as SLB, Halliburton, Kinder Morgan, Inc. , and Chesapeake Energy, alongside a strong record of over 50 peer-reviewed papers, holds two patents and has edited a leading AGU-Wiley textbook on unconventional reservoirs.

Omid Mohammadzadeh is an Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering in the College of Engineering and Mines (CEM), University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF). His main fields of expertise include physics of fluid flow and transport in porous media, flow assurance, sustainable hydrocarbon recovery, and geological carbon and hydrogen storage. Trained as a Reservoir Engineer, he worked on full-field development of offshore oilfields in the Middle East before joining the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Waterloo (UW) for a PhD degree with focus on fluid flow in porous media and EOR. Over the past 15 years since graduation from UW, Omid has worked as a Sr. Research Staff, Sr. Scientist and Research Director at various universities and research centers in North America including University of Saskatchewan and Memorial University (Canada), SLB Canada, and Schlumberger Doll Research (USA). He has authored and coauthored more than 70 full-text technical papers and 65 technical and scientific reports. In his professional capacity, Omid has been a member of organizing and technical executive committees of various conferences, and chaired several conference sessions. Omid is an avid volunteer and contributor for the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE), and has served on different committees at various capacities, including Section Officer in New York and New England Petroleum Section, member of various Awards Committees, and more recently has joined the new leadership team for the SPE Research and Development Technical Section (RDTS). Omid has been an Editorial Board Member, Guest Editor, and Member of the Topical Advisory Panel for various journals including Scientific Reports (by Springer Nature), Fluids (by MDPI), and Journal of Petroleum Exploration and Production Technology (by Springer Nature).

Dr. Ir. Anas M. Hassan is an Associate Professor of Petroleum Engineering and Energy Management at Heriot-Watt University (HWU), Aktobe Campus, Kazakhstan, and serves as Lead Subsurface Engineer at Advantek Waste Management Services, USA. He holds a BSc and MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), The Netherlands, and a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, in collaboration with TU Delft. Dr. Hassan’s research spans both fundamental and applied domains, including Reservoir Engineering (RE), Improved and Enhanced Oil Recovery (IOR/EOR), Water Management, Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS), and Transport Phenomena in Porous Media. His work leverages advanced technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Internet of Things (IoT), Exergy Return on Exergy Invested (ERoEI), Circular Economy (CE) principles, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance recovery efficiency, optimize resource use, and reduce environmental impact. Dr. Hassan is a registered professional engineer with the Royal Dutch Society of Engineers (KIVI) and an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Mohamed Adel Gabry, Ph.D., is a subsurface petroleum engineer and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Houston with extensive field and research experience spanning well completions, hydraulic fracturing, stimulation, and reservoir management. He previously served as a Subsurface Petroleum Engineer (Well Services/Well Completions) with Apache JV from 2011 to 2022, where he designed and executed stimulation treatments, including acidizing and hydraulic fracturing, and led complex workover and well intervention programs. In parallel with his operational leadership, Dr. Gabry has developed a strong research and innovation portfolio focused on wavelet-based fracture diagnostics, microseismic prediction, inter-well connectivity, and AI-enabled subsurface analytics. He is a co-inventor on four submitted patents and has authored more than 40 publications, with notable contributions to continuous wavelet transform (CWT) methodologies for fracture closure detection, stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) estimation, diagnostic fracture workflows, drilling signal analysis, and plasma-pulse–based electrified well stimulation.
