In 2012 the R&D Technical Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers defined five grand challenges facing the industry over the ensuing decade (SPE Five Grand Challenges). In the ten years since, global energy demand has continued its dramatic growth, while the industry has seen a substantial pivot towards sustainability and net-zero declarations. The time is ripe for an assessment of new grand challenges for a new era.
Join us for engaging presentations, discussions, and debate at the SPE Workshop: Oil and Gas Technology for a Net-Zero World- Defining Our Grand Challenges for the Next Decade. Jointly organized by the SPE R&D Technical Section and the University of Texas, Austin, and hosted by UT in Austin, the workshop will span three days, January 23-25, 2023, and will feature expert speakers and panellists across a range of topics:
- Pathways to Net Zero
- Improving the Sustainability of Energy Production
- New Energy Market Opportunities
- Decarbonizing Products
- Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage
- Geothermal Energy and Repurposing Existing Wells
The final day will include breakout sessions designed to summarize the learnings and define the new grand challenges. The results of the workshop will be published and will be used to focus and inspire the current and next generations of oil and gas knowledge workers.
