Will Artificial Intelligence Disrupt the Energy Industry?
We are living through a major boom in Artificial Intelligence (AI). A recent Forbes article reported a total of 292 AI unicorns in the US alone in 2022, with a combined enterprise value of $4.6 trillion! Talent incubation in legacy enterprises such as DeepMind and OpenAI has paid off handsomely. AI tools such as such as natural language recognition and visual data assimilation are fast diffusing into applications, bringing value both to consumers and to enterprises.
The Oil & Gas industry has a long history in big data analysis. Our data generation in almost every step of the energy operations value chain – upstream (reservoir location, logging, completion, etc), mid-stream (autonomous asset optimization), downstream (emissions detection and control), decarbonization (carbon removal optimization), and energy transmission optimization, has been increasing exponentially for some time. Integrated data analysis of these large corporate data assets requires a holistic pattern analysis, which is a strong fit for AI. ATCE presents a great opportunity to bring together a panel to review and discuss the current state of the art and trends in AI, as well as its current and potential applications to our industry. It presents an opportunity to bring together energy professionals and non-energy digital technology professionals to network and adopt insights from each other.
