    Dear Adetola
In your nice note in "Reservoir section of SPE connect" you have mentioned "prevent the situation that resulted in the failed merger proposal that tried to override members input before the democratic AAPG put an end to it".

I hope you and other SPE members know that exactly the same thing was done again. This time inside the SPE. Two SPE Technical sections (Petroleum Data-Driven Analytics and Digital Energy) are being abolished. All Committee and regular Members (more than 5,000 SPE members) of these two Technical Sections in the SPE were completely avoided to know and provide their opinion for the cancellation of these two SPE Technical Sections.

If you (or anyone else) is interested to know who, why, and how this unbelievable issue was done at SPE Board, I am sure many individuals in the committee of these two technical section can share with you the facts, rather than the unrealistic items that were mentioned by the SPE Board.

To me, this is the most unbelievable, unrealistic, and completely political issue that has ever happened in SPE in the past 35 years that I have been a SPE member. It can be proven that this has absolutely NOTHING to do with science and technology, it is completely political.

    Dear Shahab,

Earlier this year, with the failed "Merger" push, the SPE members found out that the SPE leadership had an "identity crises." As a part of a concerned group of SPE members, we actively worked to stop the merger that would turn SPE to an "Energy Transition Society". Realizing that the only way to affect current SPE direction is to have seats on the board, I nominated 3 nominees from the "merger opposition" group in a short time window using a loosely defined path in SPE bylaws.

It is my belief that the only way to prevent the unilateral decisions, without proper input from general membership, mentioned in your message, is to ensure that the board directors are elected by the members rather than the board selecting its own replacements. I urge you and all SPE members to consider signing the petitions at the below link for all 3 nominees. If we can get 1% of the membership signatures for the petitions, there will be an election ballot for SPE members and elect their new board directors. This will also open the path for stronger campaigns in the coming years for member controlled elections in SPE and increase member engagement, which has been declining. SPE board of directors have to get their mandate from the members so that what you describe as an unfair treatment does not happen.

    Dear Marc,
Sounds good. I just did it. To me, SPE must be a scientific and technical society rather than a political society. I hope everyone can realize that "Science and Technology" is different from "Politics"
