For a review of the state of the art in assisted history matching and forecasting uncertainty approaches, take a look at SPE 173301. This includes a detailed critique of many approaches in current use, and explains why they are not particularly assisted and certainly not probabilistic.
I struggle to sugar coat this message, it can be a bitter pill for some.
