Abstract

The Oil and Gas industry has undergone a continuous transformation in the past years driven by a complex set of causes that are slowly reshaping the landscape. Taking a pick at our European neighbors and the speed of the change process worldwide in the oil and gas industry, we know that the transformation journey is just getting more and more intense, as many companies continue to reinvent themselves amid conflicting demands from investors and regulatory bodies, and oil price and market volatility.

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the change, creating a stringent need for oil and gas companies to decarbonize their operations, adopt and implement comprehensive ESG programs, and redirect capital to renewable energy developments. The unexpected continued to happen in 2021. Oil prices in October reached 6-year high, and this boosted even more energy transition plans, while maintaining the capital discipline and honoring other financial goals established in 2020. From 2022 onward, the oil and gas organizations, should aim to become increasingly agile, resilient and embrace change, to better compensate the pressure of the very complex future that is expected. The focus should be on three main components: optimization of business performance, creation of new business capabilities and strengthening technology foundations.

The transformation roadmap should include all trends from the industry with a focus on change acceleration. How companies need to adapt their overall strategy in order to accelerate their sustainability transformation? What is next on ESG reporting? What role analytics and digitalization play in this change? What new skills and certifications will be needed for new programs and ongoing initiatives to succeed? What recognition programs organizations must implement to reward stakeholders for achieving environmental and social standards? This presentation is intended to answer not only these questions, but also provide an overview of the most innovative elucidations and systems to accelerate the ideation and creation of new solutions in this changing environment.
