    Abstract:

This seminar explores how petroleum technology can empower and advance geothermal energy development.  Drawing on decades of innovation in drilling, reservoir characterization, and well stimulation, the petroleum sector offers a toolkit that can be adapted to geothermal applications. Techniques such as directional drilling and stimulation to create enhanced geothermal systems (EGS) are enabling access to more diverse geothermal resources. The seminar will offer case studies where petroleum-derived technologies have accelerated geothermal energy.
    Speaker Bio:

Dr. Rosalind Archer is Dean(Academic) of Sciences at Griffith University, Queensland.  Prior to joining Griffith she was a member of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Auckland where she served as Director of the Geothermal Institute from 2013 to 2021, and also served as Deputy Dean. She is a Distinguished Member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, and a Fellow of Engineering New Zealand. Rosalind holds a PhD in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University. Rosalind's work aims to integrate diverse data sets into reservoir models to create better predictions of system performance
