Please review the BELOW linked documents before the meeting.

The January 28th SPE Evangeline Section meeting sincerely needs your participation to help address the topic of strengthening safety culture and creating High Reliably Organizations in offshore operations and how to advance worker engagement and empowerment in onshore offices and for those working on sharp end of the spear. In January 2018, this was the topic of a workshop in Houston sponsored by the National Academy of Science, Engineering and Medicine’s Gulf Research Project. Three members of SPE Human Factors Technical Section served on planning steering committee for this workshop.

Approximately 100 individuals representing a diverse cross section of the offshore industry spent two days discussing offshore safety and worker empowerment. The topics included worker communications and empowerment, SEMS compliance, Human Factors as well as discussions regarding what “better” looks and feels like.

The January 2018 workshop generated such impassioned and compelling discussions that the Gulf Research Program is asking for letters of intent with respect to a 10-million-dollar three-year study on preventing future incidents and with emphasis on improving safety culture across the industry. This kind of financial dedication deserves some serious conversation regarding how best to use it.

THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN. The January 28th meeting format will be that of a panel discussion and breakout groups with the goal being to get your input regarding the most effective use of this grant money to accomplish the goal of reduced risk and increased safety. It is imperative that we hear from those of you who are Thought Leaders in the offshore industry as well those of you on the front lines of the offshore operations. Too many times these programs are directed by committees who are too far removed from the daily operations. Incident investigations have shown us time and time again that if you want to know how to make things safer, ask those who are doing the work.
We have an opportunity to help generate ideas on innovative approaches this grant money is spent, as well as a sacred obligation to see that it is used to prevent future Montero and Macondo and Black Elk incidents. Please plan to attend and bring your thoughts and ideas to share. The meeting will be 1-1/2 hours and will include a meal
