Section Officers

The WTS leadership team supports programming, community growth, and knowledge-sharing across the water life cycle—source water, produced water, treatment & reuse, and subsurface disposal.

Leadership & Governance

Reach out to the appropriate officer for programming, membership, administration, or technical direction.

Chairperson

Mr. Shaya Movafaghian

Sets section direction and annual priorities; aligns programs with emerging water challenges across operations, reuse, and subsurface disposal; represents WTS within SPE and external partnerships.

Program Chairperson

Mrs. Patricia Elva Carreras

Builds the technical program calendar (webinars, SPE Live, workshops); coordinates speakers and moderators; ensures sessions balance practical operations, stewardship, innovation, and lessons learned.

Administrative Chairperson

Mr. Radhakrishnan Karantharath, SPEC

Runs governance and operations: meeting cadence, agendas/minutes, action tracking, and coordination across sub-committees; supports compliance with SPE processes and smooth execution of plans.

Membership Chairperson

Mrs. Alaa Shbair

Grows and engages the community: member onboarding, outreach to regions/affiliates/YPs, and connecting volunteers to roles; strengthens participation in discussions, events, and knowledge sharing.

Webmaster

Syed A Ahmed

Maintains the WTS microsite: publishes events and resources, refreshes officer pages, improves navigation/UX, and ensures content stays current (webinars, recordings, library items, and announcements).

Director (Workshop Sub-Committee Chair)

Mr. Rajendra Ghimire

Leads workshop planning: defines scope and themes, builds organizing committee, develops agenda, and coordinates logistics with SPE to deliver high-impact, practitioner-focused events.

Mr. Karan Shah

Co-drives webinar execution: identifies timely topics, engages young professionals and students, supports speaker coordination and moderation, and helps turn operational questions into strong sessions.

Director (Publication Sub-Committee)

Mr. Bruno Fernandes

Advances publications and knowledge products: curates recommended reading, supports JPT/OnePetro visibility, and helps convert webinars/workshops into short write-ups, highlights, and technical briefs.

Director (Publication Sub-Committee)

Mr. Sadam Hussain

Supports publication pipeline: topic scouting, volunteer coordination, and editorial support; helps highlight practical water-management lessons (planning, treatment, injection, monitoring, and performance).

Director (Webmaster Co-Chair)

Mr. Jinwen Wang

Partners on web content strategy and execution: improves page structure, keeps event banners/resources current, and supports analytics/feedback to continuously enhance how WTS content is discovered and used.

Director (Workshop Sub-Committee Chair)

Ms. Saada Al-Shukaili

Co-leads workshop development with emphasis on regional relevance, speaker diversity, and practical outcomes; helps align themes with water strategy priorities (reuse, disposal, risk, and stewardship).

BOD TD-Production & Operations

Mr. Greg Stephenson

Provides technical direction from an operations lens: helps prioritize high-value topics (produced water handling, reliability, integrity, and performance) and connects field needs with WTS programming and outputs.
