    Are there any available documents, recommended practices, and the like, that set out what the standards are for Well Integrity?  What I am looking for, is something that I can say the system we have conforms with ?????????? and it is well recognised and used by the industry.

    I have seen the NORSOK document which is about well containment barriers and how to determine what a well containment barrier is and a section on well containment barriers under different scenarios.  I have also searched in the API catalogue but haven't found anything specific there.

    I have been involved with drawing up Well Integrity Policy and processes, but this was a stand-alone document that referred to NORSOK and existing related company policy.

    It seems that there is no standalone Well Integrity standard. Following is list of standards and Recommended for you kind inforamtion.

    8) ASTM D 5787-95

    Stuart,

    I don't think you will find a single document which covers all aspects of Well Integrity. There are various elements involved with Well Integrity and you have to look at various sources and design your requirements accordingly. Depending on where you want to implement the system, you should also look at the legislative requirements.

    On the actual codes and standards available, you can refer to the following. However, it's not an exhaustive list.

    1. API Spec 14A (ISO 10432:2004) : Specification for Subsurface Safety Valve Equipment

    2. API RP 14B (ISO 10417:2004) : Design, Installation, Repair and Operation of Subsurface Safety Valve Systems

    3. API Spec 6A (ISO 10423) : Specification for Wellhead and Christmas Tree Equipment

    4. API RP 14C : Analysis, Design, Installation and Testing of Basic Surface Safety Systems on Offshore Production Platforms

    5. API RP 14H : Recommended Practice for Installation, Maintenance and Repair of Surface Safety Valves and Underwater Safety Valves

    6. API RP 90 : Annular Casing Pressure Management for Offshore Wells

    7. NORSOK D-010 : Well integrity in drilling and well operations

    8. OLF 117 : Recommended Guidelines for Well Integrity

    You may also add the draft version of ISO 16530 Part 2 - 'Well Integrity for the operational phase' to the list. This was developed specifically after the Macondo incident and may not be available on ISO site.

    Hi Stuart,

    The UK offshore operators association (Oil & Gas UK) issued guidelines on well integrity management in July 2012 which are free to OGUK members and carry a fee for non-members.  You can order the document on the OGUK website (www.oilandgasuk.co.uk) in the publications section.  OGUK are currently reviewing these guidelines and a further revision is expected to be issued later in 2014.

    One special well integrity criteria API RP 90 MAASP Calculations Published in 2006.


    The maximum allowable operating pressure for a particular annulus, measured at the wellhead relative to ambient pressure. It applies to SCP, thermal casing pressure and operator-imposed casing pressure.

    • BP worked with API to develop an industry recommended practice for managing annular casing pressure,
    •In August 2006 the American Petroleum Institute's  Published "the Annular Casing Pressure Management for Offshore Wells" (API RP 90).

    For the annulus being evaluated is the lesser of the following:

    • 80 percent of the MIYP (Minimum internal yield pressure) of the pipe body of the next outer casing or production riser string; or
    • 75 percent of the minimum collapse pressure (MCP) of the inner tubular pipe body.

    For the last outer casing or production riser string in the well, the MAWOP is the lesser of the following:

    • 30 percent of the MIYP of the pipe body for the casing or production riser string being evaluated; or
    • 75 percent of the MCP of the inner tubular pipe body.
