  • 1.  Corrosion inhibitor effectivity

    All,

As you all know, in oil & gas industry, well is treated with corrosion inhibitor to protect the tubing or casing from CO2 corrosion. Usually corrosion inhibitor effectiveness is ensured by monitoring the corrosion inhibitor residuals at surface.

What is the minimum criteria (ppm of corrosion inhibitor) to conclude its effectiveness as per any  NACE or industry best practices?

    Hi,

The CI residual in return fluid should be around 30 PPM.

    Somya, thanks for your response.

Could you please quote any standard or industry best practices.

    I suggest:-

    1. You establish the required minimum treatment of the water phase.
You should have an operational requirement based on test data or (at least) a supplier's recommendation.
    2. The water-phase residual should not be less than the target minimum (after making allowances for any sampling, or  other, issues).
