Abstract:

Greenhouse gas (GHG) management is undeniably critical to the future of oil and gas industry. Stakeholders incl. companies, governments and various international bodies are working hard to try come up with solutions and incentives to support this industry-wide efforts. Unfortunately, many of those will take time and, for various legitimate reasons, may not be applicable to the majority of the world global oil and gas supply. This presentation aims to highlight to the audiences some approaches which can be implemented today to help us manage our GHG emissions while continuing to fuel the society.

The presentation is primarily divided into two sections. The first section will provide contexts on the current state of upstream oil & gas emission. We will discuss basic information on GHG, its measurement and its reporting. Then, we discuss GHG emission profiles from selected countries (including Thailand), various approaches that have been taken to address GHG emission in those countries and specific challenges or considerations that we should be aware of. It should become clear to the audience that there is no silver bullet for GHG reduction and extra efforts will be required to successfully manage it.

The second section will discuss an approach currently being carried out by Chevron Thailand. Although Chevron’s operation in Thailand is primarily brown-field, Chevron has successfully reduced its emissions by 15% since May 2022. This success requires a holistic approach the combines organization competencies and mindset, technology initiatives, operational optimization, and facility’s lifecycle management. The speaker will highlight various tangible steps to achieve this.

Bio:

Pannawat has more than 25 years' experience with Chevron Thailand including international assignments in Angola and Vietnam with various roles and responsibilities in managements and operations: Maintenance field superintendent, Base Business, and process safety manager, Operation support Team lead, Machinery SME, Equipment Optimization, conceptual and detailed machinery design, and project management, and in his current roles as Vice president, Facilities Designs and Solutions in April 2022. He is currently responsible for managing Facilities Engineering functions including project management, construction, mechanic, structure, process, and technical safety engineering. In addition, he is leading the lower carbon strategy for Chevron Thailand.

Chaiyaporn is a specialist for Upstream Energy Transition and Upstream GHG Emissions, supporting the Asia Pacific region. He has over 20 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. He joined S&P Global in May 2017 from Chevron where he served in various business and commercial roles including decision analyst team lead, business development advisor and business planning team lead. Prior to Chevron, he was a consultant at PFC Energy and worked in various engineering roles at Unocal
