About MTS

Who We Are

Our mission is to collect, disseminate, and exchange technical knowledge concerning the measurement, reporting, and cost-effective abatement of methane emissions from oil and gas operations and related technologies for the public benefit. We also provide opportunities for professionals to enhance their technical and professional competence in this area.

We believe methane emissions reduction can be achieved by helping companies identify sources of emissions and providing cost-effective solutions to reduce or eliminate them while maximizing efficiency. MTS builds on work by the SPE Sustainable Development Technical Section and the Gaia Measuring What Matters work group, addressing the needs of those working in asset teams and/or in the field in Completions, Production & Operations, Projects Facilities & Construction, and the HSE & Sustainability communities to detect, measure, report, and reduce methane emissions.

Methane Emissions Management for a Sustainable Future
Banff, April 22–25, 2024

A dedicated forum for operators, service companies, technology developers, and policymakers to compare practical methane-management pathways, from detection and quantification to mitigation, reporting, and field execution.

A follow-up JPT feature captured a central takeaway: durable methane reduction is a management and culture challenge as much as a technology problem, requiring better data, accountable workflows, collaboration, and emissions reduction embedded into operational decisions.
