Message from the Chair

Dear Fellow Golden Gate Section Members and Friends

Our section 2018-2019 SPE year is scheduled to have a strong start with two outstanding speakers. George Moridis will make a presentation on October 4th at the University of California Berkeley and Ding Zhu, an SPE Distinguished Lecturer will talk to us on October 23rd at Stanford University.

Our section will be hosting the SPE 2019 Western Regional Meeting during the week of April 22nd at the DoubleTree hotel in San Jose. Organizing Committee Members, mostly from our section with strong support from all other Western Region sections, are hard at work planning and developing the different segments of the meeting. The meeting is currently listed on the SPE Events and the call for papers site, where people can submit abstracts, is active with several submissions already received. The meeting will include two panel discussions on Digital Transformation and Sustainability and Regulatory Issues, Exhibits, several Networking opportunities, and we will also have the traditional student paper contest among the Western Region universities in conjunction with the meeting. We need additional help from our section members to produce a successful meeting and I invite you to let me know if you are willing to volunteer. Here is a link to the meeting.

I want to congratulate the Stanford University SPE Student Chapter for being awarded the Gold Standard designation for 2018.  This prestigious designation is in recognition of the chapter’s programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development, and innovation.

Looking forward to seeing you at several of the section’s upcoming meetings. A list of confirmed meetings can be found here.
