Water-Saturated CO ₂ Mobility Control Mechanism for Enhanced Oil Recovery and CO ₂ Storage – Impact on CO ₂ -WAG, CO ₂ -SWAG, and wsCO ₂ Injections At this year’s AGM we are excited to welcome Muhammad A. Abbas, PhD candidate at UNSW to present the above presentation. As Australia accelerates its energy transition, the sequestration of Co2 becomes an important tool for allowing the future development on oil and gas resources. In addition, it could unlock reserves that are currently prevented from being developed due to their Co2 content which could help to keep energy prices low for the benefit of the country. Muhammad will present the findings of a study that proposes that water-saturated CO ₂ (wsCO ₂ ) injection, where pore-scale water condensation acts as mobility control mechanism. This concept has not been investigated before and offers the ability to both optimize oil recovery and CO ₂ storage. Annual General Meeting Following the presentation, SPE NSW/ACT will host its Annual General Meeting. The AGM will include committee updates, elections, and a call for nominations. This is a valuable opportunity to help shape the direction of our section while networking with peers.
