2011/2012 Events

Inaugural YP Social Mixer - May 2012

Organized in an effort to foster better relationship among SPE YP's. The event featured various activities to foster learning, team building, social interaction, communication, relationship & leadership development. Group events included building the tallest free standing tower using waste newspapers, a quiz on oil & gas major events and game to test how teams can actively work to achieve common goal, practised with communication and without communication. It was a very good experience for students who had the opportunity to work with professionals and build their network. Senior members were also in attendance and participated actively in all the games and activities.

Driving Awareness Series - May 2012

As part of the community outreach events for 2012, SPE Young Professionals teamed up with Federal Road Safety Corps officials to deliver a series of lectures to about 30 commuter bus drivers at the Greener Line Park in Warri. The lectures focused on "Improving Fuel Efficiency" and "Accident prevention and Defensive Driving". These lectures were well recieved by the target audience and copies of the Nigeria Highway Code were given as gifts to individuals who were able to answer road safety and fuel efficiency questions correctly.

      

    

   

Preparation for STCE - Dry Runs - April 2012

2 dry runs were held for students of the Petroleum Training Institute and this helped prepare them for the presentations to be made at the 2012 Student Technical Conference and Exhibition.

Ezekiel Akpan came overall 3rd in the competition. This is the highest position any section 104 school has earned in the STCE.

Petroleum Training Institute SPE Engineering Week on 15th February 2012

  • Presentation on ‘Depleting and Gas Reserves in Nigeria- Meeting Technological Challenges’ by Mr. Kefe Amrasa
  • Talk on benefits of SPE professional membership given by Section Chairman Mr. Kayode Ayeni
  • SPE Aptitude Test organized by the Chapter
  • Presentation on Well and Reservoir Performances by Carol Onita.
  • Held dry run for students in preparation for Student Technical Conference & Exhibition in conjunction with their lecturers (students received feedback on area to improve Paper work & presentation skills ).

 

Novena University SPE Engineering week on 13th February 2012

  • Presentation by Mr. Kefe Amrasa (Section 104 Program Chairman). Topic: Effect of fossil fuel on the environment and its environmental impact.

Ambassador Lecture PTI - December 2011

Summary:
Hamzat Kassim (Assistant Chairman YP, SPDC) delivered the Ambassador Lecture which was followed by a session on Interview Skills facilitated by Caroline Onita (YP Chairperson, SPDC). Idris Olatunji (SPDC) was next with an interactive discussion on career guidance and the final lecture of the day was about Presentation and Technical Writing skills. It was delivered by Ovokerhoyi Esharegharan (SPDC).
