Description:

The committee is charged with:

  • Assessing the curriculum of petroleum engineering and makes recommendations so that it is consistent with the needs of the petroleum industry
  • Advising the SPE Board Committee on Member Programs concerning matters pertaining to petroleum engineering education as it pertains to curricula and accreditation matter
  • Submitting a list of qualified ABET petroleum engineering program evaluators to the ABET for approval
  • Engaging in activities as the Chair deems appropriate in the development of petroleum engineering education
  • Implementing and monitoring the policies and programs concerning the petroleum engineering faculty
  • Working with other engineering and scientific organizations to address the issues of quality and supply of engineering faculty and students

Expectations

  • To actively engage in committee functions, including meetings and other functions performed to achieve the goals of the committee
  • To participate in one physical meeting per year (8 hours per year)
  • To participate in two teleconferences per year (2 hours per year)
  • To be available to discuss committee matters via email with committee members

Eligibility

  • To be gainfully employed in the petroleum industry or academia
  • SPE professional membership

Expected Time Commitment

  • 3-Year Term Cycle
  • Attendance at one physical meeting per year (24 hours per 3-Year Term Cycle)
  • Attendance in two teleconferences per year (6 hours per 3-Year Term Cycle)
  • Estimated time commitment per year 10 hours
