Ends: 10-10-2017
Location: Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio, TX 78205 volunteer opportunity location

Description:

Following feedback from previous years we would like to incorporate the role of PetroBowl® Judges into the question vetting procedure to ensure the quality of those questions asked on the day. This will be under the guidance of the YMEC Student Integration Subcommittee.

Selected volunteers will be given training and access to the online database of submitted questions for this contest. They will check their quality and format for suitability at the Championship at ATCE.

Preference will be given to experienced professionals who are also planning on attending ATCE 2017 (San Antonio, USA) and would be able to help judge the contest on the day. We will also accept those who have had experience vetting questions in the past.

Other volunteer roles are available for those who wish to submit questions to the Championship contest.

About PetroBowl

SPE’s flagship competition matches SPE student chapter teams against one another in a fast-paced quiz competition covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry. Teams from six Regional Qualifiers are invited to compete in the final, held during the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).

Eligibility

PetroBowl® Judges must be:

  • Experienced Professional SPE Members in good standing
  • Preferred previous experience in PetroBowl or similar style contests
  • Good overall knowledge of the oil and gas industry
  • Effective communicator

PetroBowl® Question Reviewers must be:

  • Professional SPE Members in good standing
  • Good technical experience (preferably in multiple fields)
  • Previous experience in PetroBowl
  • Personal interest in developing university students

Expectations

Judges will be expected to engage with training on PetroBowl® Rules and Regulations, question structure and use of the online review software. Once trained, judges will work with other judges and question reviewers to ensure all questions are suitable for the contest. This role will not involve creating questions, but existing ones may need to be amended to be made suitable.

For those available for the Championship itself, judges will be asked to take turns monitoring the game to ensure rules are kept to and adjudicate any appeals to the questions or answers given.
