Description:

The #SPEwomen Work Group will frame and propose an opportunity for an ongoing women’s community within SPE. The work group is sponsored by 2017 President Janeen Judah with the objective of supporting #SPEwomen in SPE member programs and the work place.

Expectations

  • Members will collaborate and propose a set of enhancements for SPE to enact to support #SPEwomen
  • Foster a growing, global online community of members, and supporters
  • Future outcome may be formation of a permanent #SPEWomen Standing Committee

Eligibility

  • Interest in supporting women’s issues as an area of improvement in the oil and gas industry and SPE
  • SPE professional membership
  • Members aged ~25-40 are preferred

Expected Time Commitments

  • ~Monthly teleconferences
  • Online collaboration in a secure and private SPE Connect community
  • Participate in future #SPEwomen Tweet Chats
  • Participate in community forums (i.e. social media and SPE Connect communities)

Expected Deliverables

  1. Frame - what is the problem SPE should solve?
  2. Review existing resources within SPE
    • SPE Connect Womens Network – currently inactive due to low member interest
    • eMentoring program – impact on women
    • Soft Skills Committee resources
  3. Review existing resources outside SPE – propose plans to leverage programs and resources already in the market for women engineers & scientists, such as:
  1. Draft Standing Committee Charter
  2. Implementation Plan – proposal may include:
    • Virtual communities - Include social media and webinar ideas
    • Women’s events in conjunction with conferences and meetings
    • Must be global – not just US-centric
    • Committee should focus on what they will do, not what they will assign to others to do for them
  3. Proposal for SPE Board of directors for implementation of a permanent Standing Committee.
