We are calling in for volunteers to participate in the Student Sustainability Challenge: Harnessing Sustainability through HSSE to be held alongside the SPE International Conference and Exhibition on Health, Safety, Security, Environment, and Social Responsibility
Sustainability means many different things to different people. For governments it means ensuring ‘development that meets the needs and aspirations of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. For companies it means performing their operations in a way that ensures minimal impact on the environment or society while ensuring a future for the business in the long term. Oil and gas exploration, production, transportation and refining companies along with other mineral extraction and processing industries can sometimes be seen to be inherently unable to act sustainably given the nature of their involvement with irreplaceable fossil fuel.
Student’s challenge will be to debate one or more of the following statements from the perspective of sustainability.
