The SPE Austin Section is seeking a Young Professional Chairperson to develop, plan, and coordinate YP activities for SPE Members within the Austin Section.
Role Responsibilities
The role of Young Professional Chairperson is to lead all YP specific activities within the organizational board structure. The YP chair will be expected to plan and execute YP activities within Austin for the benefit of SPE Members. All activities should result in zero expense. Funds for activities can be developed through sponsorship or ticket/registration sales. The YP Chairperson will report to the Chairperson of the board, and work with other board members to ensure success.
Currently, activities for SPE Young Professionals are not taking place in the Austin Section and it would be the responsibility of this individual to develop and maintain them. SPE International will provide commercial-grade email marketing systems with pre-loaded distribution lists of the over 150 Young Professional members in the Austin Section.
To ensure success for this position, the volunteer should be able to devote one to three hours a week toward SPE Activities and host a YP event once every four to eight weeks.
A Young Professional in SPE is an individual who is under the age of 36 and is working in the Oil and Gas industry (including their adjacent industries).
Young Professional Activities can include:
- Social Events and/or Networking Opportunities (Priority)
- SPE Cares/Community volunteering organization (Secondary)
- Technical Activities/Lunch and Learns (Secondary)
- Fundraisers (Secondary)
Position Benefits, and Professional Development
This position will provide the successful individual chance to expand their professional development, gain skills in communications and budgeting, and grow their existing network. You will also gain skills related to the operation of a strategic not-for-profit board as a member of Austin Section.
Should the activities for the Young Professionals in Austin grow, this position will have the ability to build and form a committee/team of YP’s, providing you with managerial skills.
Skills and Qualifications
You should be a moderately outgoing individual, with a good network of existing friends and contacts within the oil and gas industry in Austin. You should be able to work independently, but also as a team member on a Section board when required.
You should be highly organized and a clear communicator.
It is a requirement that this individual a current SPE Member (renewed with a 2019 membership), be under the age of 36, and reside and work in Austin (or the immediate surrounding area).
Knowledge of the Austin gastronomy scene and local activities of interest to Young Professionals and previous experience volunteering for an SPE Student Chapter or Section would be considered an asset.
You should not be currently volunteering for another Society or Association within a similar discipline.
This position is only open to Professional Members of the Society of Petroleum Engineers based in Austin, Texas.
