The Major Award Subcommittees are charged with reviewing candidate nominations and making award recipient recommendations to the SPE Board of Directors. The Major Award subcommittees are as follows:

Carll, Lucas, and Uren Award Subcommittee which Judge the following awards:

o   John Franklin Carll Award for Distinguished Professionals

o   Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal for Technical Leadership

o   Lester C. Uren Award for Technical Leadership

DeGolyer, Rand, and McConnell Award Subcommittee which judges the following awards:

o   DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal

o   Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal

o   Robert Earll McConnell Award

Distinguished and Honorary Member Award Subcommittee which judges the following awards:

o   Honorary Member Award

o   Distinguished Member Award

o   Members of this subcommittee must be former SPE Presidents and/or Honorary Members, plus the current SPE President

The above subcommittees are composed of 7 to 13 SPE professional members in good standing who have expertise and interest in the awards they are judging and are often prior major award recipients. The incoming SPE President approves major award subcommittee members.

Qualifications and Experience

o   Current SPE professional member with an unbiased vested interest in SPE (required)

o   Technical expertise and interest in serving on a major award subcommittee (required)

o   SPE member for at least 10 years (recommended)Recipients of an SPE major award being judged (recommended)

Expected Time Commitment

o   Three-year term for members

o   One-year term for the chair, typically an existing actively engaged award subcommittee member in the third year of his or her term

o   Ability to meet for approximately three teleconference deliberations between March and May

Deliverables and Expectations

o   Subcommittee members must act in the best interest of SPE and actively participate

o   No travel required. Communication will take place via teleconference and email

o   Nomination reviews take place online and during deliberation teleconferences

o   Deliverable - Recipient recommendation(s) to the SPE Board of Directors for final approval
