To better reflect our technical focus, the “Management Technical Section (MTS)” is now the “Asset Management Technical Section (AMTS).” This change highlights our emphasis on the technical side of management —solutions that drive business value, reduce risk, minimize downtime, and integrate engineering with operations, economics, finance, and strategy. Our remit for applying asset management concepts includes both:
- Production and operations of existing assets
- New capex to grow or enhance asset value
Our focus remains unchanged and continues to be guided by the AMTS taxonomy. Our taxonomy organizes management concepts into five AMTS key areas:
- Asset & Portfolio Management
- Risk Management & Decision-Making
- Strategic Planning & Management
- Energy Economics
- Professionalism, Training, & Education
Between November 2024 and August 2025, discussions with the SPE Board and MTS leadership revealed that term “Management” could be misinterpreted as soft skills, job titles, SPE management duties, leadership roles etc. The SPE Full Board deliberated and approved the name change in July 2025 and communicated with the MTS board in August. The new name “Asset Management Technical Section” will be formally launched at ATCE 2025 in Houston.
