  • Our Fall Season Is Underway, Fort Worth SPE!

Our fall season is officially underway, and it's been great to see so many familiar and new faces back with us. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped us start the year strong.

Our September 24 luncheon at the Fort Worth City Club was a great kickoff. Thank you to Todd Guidry of Core Laboratories for his presentation, "Introduction to Reservoir Fluids and How Good Is That PVT Study?" Todd gave us a valuable look at reservoir fluids and showed how the quality of a PVT study shapes the design and development of oil and gas projects. Thank you as well to everyone who attended, asked questions, and stayed to network afterward.

Our speaker series continues on Thursday, October 22, with SPE Distinguished Lecturer Mike Poythress, retired Principal Production Engineer from ConocoPhillips. He will present "Operational Excellence: How to Increase Profits at Any Oil Price - A Higher Level, Deep Dive into Sucker Rod Pumping Fundamentals." Mike brings more than 45 years of rod pumping experience. His talk will cover why so many sucker rod pumped wells fall short of their design rates and what operators and suppliers can do about it. Please note that we are back at the Petroleum Club for this meeting.

The very next day, Friday, October 23, is our 42nd Annual SPE Fort Worth Golf Tournament at Squaw Creek Golf Club in Willow Park. Breakfast and registration begin at 7:00 AM, with a shotgun start at 8:00 AM. This is our biggest event of the year, and every dollar raised supports scholarships for students pursuing careers in the energy industry. Teams and sponsorships are limited, so if you haven't registered yet, please contact Logan Vitello at Logan.Vitello@levare.com to register, sponsor, or volunteer.

Looking ahead to Thursday, November 19, we'll welcome Dr. Stuart L. Scott, Herald W. Winkler Chair and Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University. He will present "EOR is Gaining New Interest in Unconventional Basins as Economic Methods Emerge." More details will follow soon.

Our section stays strong because of the enthusiasm and generosity of the Fort Worth oil and gas community. Whatever the price of a barrel is doing, events like these keep us connected. They give us a chance to share technical knowledge, invest in future leaders, and build the relationships that make our industry successful.

Thank you for your continued support of the SPE Fort Worth Section. I look forward to seeing you at the Petroleum Club and out on the course this month.

    Sincerely,

    Aaron Barbato

  • Hello and welcome back Fort Worth SPE!

I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and found time to relax, recharge, and spend time with family and friends. As summer comes to a close, I am excited to welcome you back to another year of engagement, learning, and networking with the SPE Fort Worth Section. We have an excellent line up of speakers and events for this season.

Our section continues to thrive because of the enthusiasm, generosity, and engagement of the Fort Worth oil and gas community. Last year was especially rewarding as our 41st Annual Golf Tournament and 26th Annual Clay Shoot raised thousands of dollars to support scholarships for students pursuing careers in the energy industry. These funds help invest in the next generation of petroleum professionals, and I would like to sincerely thank our sponsors, volunteers, participants, and supporters who made these events such a success.

We are kicking off the season with our September 24 luncheon meeting, featuring Todd Guidry of Core Laboratoriespresenting "Introduction to Reservoir Fluids and How Good Is That PVT Study?" Todd is a subject matter expert in reservoir fluids and will discuss PVT studies and their impact on the design and development of oil and gas projects. I encourage all members to attend and help us start the year strong.

Please note that our September meeting will be held at the Fort Worth City Club rather than the Petroleum Club. We will return to the Petroleum Club for our October meeting.

We also look forward to our 43rd Annual SPE Fort Worth Golf Tournament on October 23 at Squaw Creek Golf Club. Whether you are an avid golfer, a sponsor, or simply looking for a great opportunity to network with fellow professionals, we hope to see you there. If you have questions about the tournament or would like to explore sponsorship opportunities, please contact Logan Vitello.

Lastly, I would like to offer a few thoughts on the current state of our industry. As commodity prices continue to impact not only our country but economies around the world, let the volatility serve as a reminder of the importance of the work we do and the role energy plays in supporting modern life. It is my hope that these market dynamics help reinforce the value of maintaining stable, reliable, and affordable sources of energy.

As the price of a barrel swings up and down, it is important for our industry community to remain connected and engaged. Through SPE, we can learn from one another, share technical knowledge, develop future leaders, and strengthen the professional relationships that make our industry successful.

Thank you for your continued support of the SPE Fort Worth Section. I look forward to seeing you at our September meeting and throughout the year ahead.

    Sincerely,

    Aaron Barbato
