Introduction
The London section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has run the annual Women In Energy (WIE) seminar targeted at women in the energy sector, for six consecutive years. This is the premier event for women in the energy sector and serves as an equivalent event to the Women in the City event for this industry. WIE is a one day seminar which runs from 9:15am to 5pm, followed by networking and evening drinks till 6.30pm. Since its inception in 2006, the number of delegates has swelled from 60 to 180 in 2012, consistently selling out since 2009.
Aim
The WIE seminar presents an opportunity to get together and discuss careers and challenges in working in the oil and gas industry. It facilitates networking amongst female members across all energy related sectors, allowing them to benefit from sharing experiences and insights on gender-related career topics. These are grouped under a collective theme with keynote speeches from inspirational female leaders who have risen through the ranks and share their journey. This is complimented by a series of workshops on such topics as career coaching, developing leadership qualities etc. which are delivered by experienced professional consultancies.
Legacy
The event is subsidised by the London Section of the SPE and sponsorship from industry and educational organisations. This enables attendance fees to be kept to a minimum to encourage delegates, many of whom return year after year. Many of the speakers have found the event an excellent opportunity for networking with peers and have requested the opportunity to speak again.
Attendees are predominantly female professionals working in the following areas:
• The upstream oil and gas sector
• The oil and gas sectors of management consultancies and law firms
• The wider energy sector including mining and downstream and renewable energy
• Audience experience level ranges from engineering students, new starters to mid-level/ senior managers
Past speakers have included Senior Technical or Business Managers from BG Group, Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP, Baker Hughes, Schlumberger, Shell and Senergy to name a few.
If you would like to promote your company at this prestigious event, then please see overleaf for available sponsorship packages to suit your marketing needs and budget. Please send all enquiries and payments to Kate McMillan at Katespe@aol.com
