A Crude Reality
This film shows that the Santa Barbara coastline is plagued with oil and tar washing up on the beaches every day - how it gushes up naturally through cracks on the ocean floor, fouling the water, the beaches, and the marine life. It illustrates the environmental impact of this "natural occurrence" and the economic impact from the unrealized revenue that basically washes away every day.
The primary discussion is around two untold truths: There is significant environmental pollution occurring from the prolific oil and gas seepage off the Santa Barbara County coastline; the un-produced energy reserves off this coastline represent billions of "lost" dollars to the State of California – a crude reality indeed.
The Road 2 Energy Independence
In this sequel to "A Crude Reality", we emphasize California's need to produce its vast supply of energy reserves. We show that there is more drilling going on in the United States than at any other time in the past 40 years, the great relief this is bringing to the communities participating in this production, and the reasons why this happening. The film discusses how this same economic relief is available to California, establishing that the potential for real jobs and real economic benefits for this state is a staggering number, concluding with the question: Why isn't California utilizing its tremendous energy resource, putting an end to its economic crisis and establishing the road to energy independence?
