Description

Tyson Messick with Schlumberger will be the Distinguished Lecturerer. He will be presenting on Artificial Lift.

Abstract:

Artificial lift is a method to enhance fluid recovery from a well.  This is done by using a mechanical pump or by using equipment to inject gas for lightening the hydrostatic head.  This presentation will overview the different types of artificial lift such as electric submersible pumps (ESP’s), gas lift and diaphragm pumps.  Each type of artificial lift has unique advantages and disadvantages which allow for a broad spectrum of applications.  Artificial lift is typically needed in later stages of the well life after the well no longer flows naturally, however it is also being used to enhance recovery on wells that flow naturally.  Artificial lift can additionally be used in well deliquification for shale gas and coalbed methane wells.  Deliquification of the well removes the heavy fluids from the wellbore allowing gas to flow naturally to the surface.  The presentation will give an overview of the types of artificial lift with insight on the equipment and application for ESP’s, gas lift and diaphragm pumps.
