Please join us in welcoming SPE International 2013 President Egbert Imomoh to the area. He is traveling through the Southwestern US and will be making a stop in Farmington. President Imomoh will be speaking to the members at this luncheon. We would like to have a warm welcome for him, so please plan to attend this event!

Abstract:

In October 2011, world population is estimated to have hit 7 billion and the predictions are that in another 14 years this number will grow by another 1 billion. It is also expected that the per capita consumption of petroleum products will increase in emerging countries. This along with the economic activities in China and India are expected to drive the increase in demand for petroleum. The challenge in the future is how to ensure that industry will supply and meet the world’s needs. SPE is positioned to help improve future supply by:

• Broadening the use of technology that will increase the recoveries from existing finds. 
• Finding ways to bring new finds (conventional and non‐conventional) to production quickly.
• Reducing amount of time taken to deploy new technology.
• Increasing in membership/sections to ensure access of technology to more practitioners in the industry.
• Investing in new SPE IT systems to deliver technology to our members very quickly.
• Assisting university faculties so that they attract good/young material.
• Communicating to graduates that our industry is an exciting one.
• Sharing the good that the industry does to counteract the bad image that has emerged over the years.

Bio:

President Egbert Imomoh is the Non-Executive Chairman and co-founder of Afren plc. His petroleum-industry career began in 1968, when he joined Shell as a petroleum engineer in Nigeria after completing training in The Netherlands. During his career, Imomoh has worked in Nigeria, the UK, and The Netherlands. He rose to the position of Deputy Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, a position he held until his retirement in February 2002. He then worked with Shell International, London, as a Senior Corporate Adviser on Nigeria during 2002-04.

Imomoh has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers since 1972 and was a founding member of the local SPE organization in Nigeria. He was Chairman of SPE Nigeria Council during 1988-89, became an SPE Distinguished Member in 1989, and was named an Honorary Member in 2011. Imomoh served as the first Africa Region Director on the SPE Board of Directors during 2000-03, chairing the Board Committee on Membership, Education, and Professional Activities in 2002-03. He has been chairman of the SPE Nigeria Council Board of Trustees since 2007. Imomoh holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Birmingham, England.
