Catch Them Young (CTY).

Objective: Is to encourage the pursuit of a career in petroleum engineering (PE) among secondary level students.

 Key focus:

• Career talk: Prospects and Requirements for a career in PE
• Where feasible, sites visit to create a long lasting impression
• Essay and quiz competition to select the best three students from each section area and subsequently the best three students at Council level.
• Presentation of awards (cash and certificates) to the three best students at Council level during the NAICE.
• Existing practice involves invitation/ sponsorship of winners and their parents/principal to the SPE Annual Banquet of NAICE for conferment of awards.

 Current Challenge:

• Establishing an independent funding arrangement for the awards – Foundation or Corporate sponsorship
• Developing awards profile from cash and certificates to full fledge scholarship.

Council responsibilities vide its Student Affairs Committee are:

• to advise each Section on the Essay Topic, 30 Quiz questions (10 each in Maths, Chemistry and Physics), Examination Date and Time;
• to receive and further assess scripts of the best three students from each Section to determine the overall best three students.
