ABSTRACT
Title: Changing the conversation
Our industry has diligently improved our safety performance over many decades. Systems for safe work have been put in place, our understanding of personal safety risks has been enhanced, and tools to manage all aspects of personal safety have been implemented. What’s more, we have results to prove our success. Whereas personal safety remains a key focus area and improvement potential remains, catastrophic industry events have introduced a new conversation. Process Safety deals with a different level of risk. It is a level where our learning and statistics on personal safety do not apply, a level where we need to look for weak and leading signals through different and stronger prisms, a level where we still have significant improvement potential and where the daily conversations are not yet where they need to be. This presentation will provide insight into the Process Safety challenge using Wells as the example. It will cover how it can be approached from a systems point of view, how it can be made meaningful through all organizational levels, and how to involve all involved companies to help mitigate the exposure. The material is suitable for both new joiners to the industry and experienced professionals, and is relevant both for subsurface and surface disciplines.
