Marius Dobrescu
Sand Control Engineer, Production Operations, Upstream, OMV PETROM S.A.
Abstract:
Conventional well completions in soft formations commonly produce formation sand or fines with fluids. These formations are usually geologically young and shallow, and they have little or no natural cementation. Sand production is unwanted because it can plug wells, erode equipment and reduce well productivity and it also has no economic value.
Globally, formation sand production from wells is a daily problem because in many producing regions sand control completions are dominant and they add considerable expenses to operations.
In order to get the control of formation sand it is necessary to pass through some important phases (selection method, formation sand analysis, screen selection etc.) that have as final result applying of best techno-economical solution for completing the well.
