Drilling Uncertainty Prediction Technical Section LIVE EVENT

Developing Data Science Specialties Targeting Oil & Gas Industry

Includes a Live Event on 02/26/2019 at 8:30 AM (EST)

The Oil & Gas industry has historically been slow to adopt the latest IT technologies, focusing on Oil &Gas specific technologies and relegating IT as a non-core technology. It has also modeled the business functions using verticals, such as Exploration, Petroleum Engineering, or Drilling that did not communicate effectively and share information across these verticals, which has turned these verticals into business silos.

Data science and Data-driven technologies, such as Data analytics and AI (Machine Learning, Deep Learning) have achieved real value creation in various industries such as Retail, Finance, Manufacturing, Advertising and Social platforms.  However, and in spite of the possession of large volumes of data by the Oil & Gas companies, they did not yet realize the full potential of these technologies and their data. This webinar will try to shed some light and share our thoughts on how the Oil & Gas industry can develop this critical proficiency in Data science and Data-driven technologies in order to reap the promised rewards of improving efficiency, cost savings, and enhancing operational safety.

Speaker: Zaki Al Awwami - Saudi Aramco

Mr. Al Awwami is an accomplished Information Technology Senior Systems Consultant with more than 30 years of experience working in the Oil & Gas industry.  He is skilled in IT Strategy & Planning, Big Data Analytics, Digital Transformation, AI/ML/DL technologies, Enterprise Architecture, HPC, High Performance and Enterprise Storage, Data Protection, Cloud Computing, Database and Data Warehouse solutions, System Administration, and IT Infrastructure Operations and Service Management. Mr. Al Awwami has a Master Degree in Computer Science.

The goals of the Drilling Uncertainty Prediction Technical Section are as follows:

Provide a multi-disciplinary forum for technical discussion and a consensus-based arena, maintain quality material related to Drilling Uncertainty Prediction and:

  • Share knowledge, experiences, best practices and enhance technical knowledge and competence across multiple departmental teams.
  • Identify major issues and technology areas on which to focus cooperation and discussions.
  • Suggest and work with relevant SPE groups and other professional societies to develop forums, workshops, training courses and programming.
  • Maintain and promote industry awareness of related challenges and technologies.
  • Address gaps between Operators’ common requirements and solution providers.
  • Maintain and promote industry awareness of related challenges and technologies.

The Drilling Uncertainty Prediction Technical Section will address major challenges affecting the cost and efficiency of drilling operations. By integrating resources and experience from both the Drilling and Subsurface worlds, the primary aim will be to ensure accurate and safe well placement while addressing the needs of the Industry to reduce Invisible Lost Time and mitigate or in some cases even eliminate Non-Productive Time through accurate predictions of geo-hazards.
