    Dear All,

    I am looking for some discussion on specific well design software solutions, particularly Oliasoft, DrillPlan, Landmark package.

    Please let me know if any of you in this community has some experience with it.

    Dear sirs,
    Integrated drilling engineer software prototyped in MS Excel/VBA
    Benchmarked against:

    * Landmark t
    * Maurer
    * CWEAR-6

    Hello all,

    Interesting comparison on Casing Wear.

    We have found that stiff-string modeling along with accurate contact points calculation makes a big difference.

    Think that you might want to run this discussion on the Drilling Community
    website &/or via the Drilling Systems Automation TS.

    You might also want to expand and possibly focus on what the software is
    expected to deliver, which should de-commercialize the discussion a bit.

    FYI I had an interesting discussion recently with a Drilling Engineering
    guru on the appropriateness and value of probabilistic cost estimates
    compared to deterministic Estimates, paired with a Technical Limits
    guesstimate at the conceptual engineering phase for screening studies on
    geothermal opportunities.

    His opinion was that probabilistic approaches required access to a lot more
    in-house or public domain experiential data than was currently available
    via the IGA..

    Patryk,

    Are you specially looking for all in one provider of the traditional Landmark EDM platform of products or are you looking at specific well design software such as casing design?

    John,

    I am looking more into experience of Drilling Engineers using both Landmark EDM and Oliasoft and what difference they can see.

    Well design has three main aspects  1. value of information design 2. reservoir development (aka flow) design 3. drilling and completion design. VOI and flow aspects come first because they relate to the purpose of the wells (exploration / appraisal / monitoring / development [injection or production]). Drilling & completion while always present and critically important (not the least considering the safety considerations involved in drilling and completion operations) only come after VOI and flow aspects - purpose come before means. Many tools exists for Computer Assisted Design. Most of them will focus upon one possibly two aspects among VOI / Flow / Drilling and completion. I do not have in mind any solution truly tackling in any satisfactorily manner all three domains. Different forums might be best to discuss detailed matters related to well design from the perspective of VOI (exploration or reservoir manangement), flow (reservoir engineering / field development  / well operations) or drilling and completion. Am I correct in understanding that your interest is geared towards Drilling & Completion design per se and not the other aspects?

    Patryk and Pierre,
    I believe that this discussion belongs in the Drilling & Completions
    Communities and that the software mentioned focuses on the Well Design
    constraints and materials selection that are implicitly required to de-risk
    the chances of meeting the VoI and/or well performance aspects.

    Personally, I'd reverse the order, Pierre, as HSE trumps the other
    objectives, even though it is the third step in the process. There are many
    technology gaps that prevent us from meeting the data collection and well
    deliverability objectives until new tools and techniques are perfected,
    such as 20,000psi HT wellheads for example.

    Many E&P ideas are stewing on the back-burner pending the completion of R&D
    programs.
