Geothermal energy is poised to be a key contributor in the shift to a sustainable energy future. Oil and Gas industry has the skillset and expertise to convert this geothermal dream to a reality. However, this transformation can be significantly expedited using modern data science and machine learning methods.
In pursuit of this goal, SPE Data Science and Engineering Analytics Technical Section (DSEATS) is organizing a datathon focused on geothermal energy, in collaboration with SPE Gulf Coast Section, US Department of Energy, Utah FORGE, and Project InnerSpace. The SPE Geothermal Datathon 2023 is going to challenge participants to solve a geothermal engineering problem using real field data from the Utah FORGE Project. Participants are going to use modern machine learning methods to create predictive models to aid future geothermal energy production. Participants are going to work on one of the largest geothermal datasets assembled including never before analyzed data. They will leverage their combined engineering and data skillsets to generate actionable insights to help solve the real-world design problem.
The datathon will be accompanied by bootcamps covering technical topics related to data science in energy, geothermal energy, and soft skills. The Bootcamps will kick off in February and datathon will kick off in March 2023. More details will be provided on the event webpage.
