What I'm thankful for...

Volunteers are the most important part of SPE. If it wasn’t for their willingness to serve and get involved, SPE wouldn’t be celebrating all that we are today. We know that time is valuable, and we sincerely want to express our gratitude. SPE is so proud of our volunteers! They have envisioned our goals for the industry, and they have prioritized their time and effort to help us all reach success. From all of us to you, THANK YOU!

SPE has the honor of working with thousands of volunteers. The officers of sections or chapters, the judging committee members, the peer review committee members… they are all volunteers. As SPE strives to continually show our appreciation for our volunteers, we want to encourage you to do the same and honor the volunteers within your own chapter.

The yearly annual reports contained tons of wonderful ideas on how your chapter can honor volunteers. (Yes – we actually read every single one of them. We love you all!) To reference some of these best practices, we have posted the 2014 Outstanding Student Chapters annual reports in Connect. View the winning chapter annual reports to learn about best volunteer appreciation practices.

One of our favorite ideas that we’ve seen done is the honoring of volunteers with an end of the year event with an award ceremony. Having an end of the year event is a great opportunity to thank everyone who has invested in your chapter. This can include individuals at your university, your sponsoring section, and especially any company sponsors. Providing gratitude in this way can encourage more sponsors and more industry leaders to get involved, and it also serves to motivate student members. This is a wonderful time to thank volunteers in front of their university and peers and grow the chapter by inspiring other students to get involved. We are immensely proud of the initiative chapters have taken to give a big “Thank you” to their volunteers. Communicate with fellow officers in the officer communities in Connect to learn more about how your chapter can do the same. If your chapter has done one of these yearly events, now is the perfect time to share your success and knowledge with your fellow officers.

We are truly thrilled with the bright minds and servant hearts that have provided the prestige SPE celebrates. As this year draws to a close, please find a way to honor the volunteers that serve your chapter.

Thank you to all our volunteers!
