WHAT I THINK VOLUNTEERING AT SPE ACCOMPLISHES FOR OUR GLOBAL COMMUNITY
Members within our global community obtain valuable experience through carrying out voluntary tasks.
Members everywhere can either gain new experiences or build on experience through volunteering within SPE. A great example of this is mentoring. Mentoring requires a multitude of skills including effective communication, teaching, time management and decision-making in relation to career paths.
Student receiving knowledge about the oil industry
Students interested in pursuing a career in the oil and gas industry can hugely benefit from knowledge shared by volunteers at SPE around the globe. This knowledge may include the importance of internships; advice on how to go about obtaining an internship; desirable skills you can develop before graduating.
Members become more mindful of global issues related to the oil and gas industry
Members within the SPE global community can become more conscious of concerns within the oil and gas industry, especially through blog written by volunteer bloggers. This increase in awareness could bring about a better understanding of how these issues arise and the impacts these problems have on economies and societies in the future. Awareness of these problems is especially significant during times of low oil prices; and can also inspire individuals within SPE to form solutions to these problems.
I might do a blog on obtaining internships, comment if you want me to write one up in the near future.
