Cementing Head Query

By Dane Armand posted 06-24-2013 09:42 AM

I have a question regarding cement hose lengths and any general “rules-of-thumb” in regards to the cementing process that is directly affected by the hose length. I work in the offshore rig department as an application engineer and I have been asked by multiple customers to recommend a cement hose length. We are able to give an accurate recommendation for the mud hose length because we supply both the derrick end and the top drive connection. The issue with the cement hose is that we are only responsible for one end, the derrick goose-neck connection. The concern I have brought up is that if we are going to give a recommendation, we need to know how service companies interface with the cement hose. I don’t have a lot of knowledge on how the cement heads are used, moved, stored, or connected to the cement hose and I was hoping you could help point me in the right direction. Any information is greatly appreciated.
