Play Golf, Technology Happy, Super Sponsors

The main event of this month is the Golf Tournament on May 3rd.  Please sign up now through this link:   http://www.laspe.org/golf2007/golf2007remit.html . This is our major fundraiser and the proceeds will benefit our High School and University Scholarship Program, Community Outreach, Elementary School Outreach, Science Fair prizes and other outreach activities promoting the oil industry.  We specially need your support this year because there are a record number of scholarship applicants, doubling that of last year’s program.  The Board is working hard to see how to allocate money to fund as many qualified applicants as possible.  We really need your help with this fund raising effort!  Please sign up, and come to enjoy an afternoon of fun and, at the same time, invest in our future.  The main reason for this fundraising is to help the younger generation and to improve the image of our industry. You can organize a foursome or just join one.  You do not need to know how to play golf in order to enjoy a fun evening after the play is concluded. You can buy raffle tickets to win prizes, donate fund, sponsor a Tee, and join us for dinner.  Our regional director, Tom Walsh, and I will be there.

The other main event is the Technology Happy Hour on May 2 from 4 to 7 p.m.  You can come and go any time. If you arrive by 4 p.m., there is a special prize drawing for people who arrive early.  This event is a great opportunity to network, learn and share.  Consider this event as a “Speed-dating” with technology! (See the event brochure and detailed program in this newsletter).  There are many interesting Table Topics! We have also set up a table for Urban Field Challenges where you will discuss Best Practices and Lessons Learned on how to be a good neighbor as an oil and gas producer in the Los Angeles Basin.  We have also set-up two speed mentoring tables where you can discuss with experts on Technical and Soft skill topics.  I thank Petrotechnical Resources Alaska, ChemEOR, Luna and Glushon, Baker Hughes and PTS Laboratories for their generous event sponsorship.  Everyone, please come and enjoy a late afternoon happy hour event to speed learn or just mingle.

I am really happy to report that our very own Eric Withjack, Ted Frankiewicz, Marina Voskanian and Behnam Jafarpour are all recipients of prestigious SPE Regional Awards.  Please join me and congratulate these awesome colleagues.

To sustain and improve SPE and our section, we need volunteers. If you are interested to be a Board Member, please send your resume to Serge Baghdikian before the deadline of May 24th.

As I mentioned in a previous newsletter, I would like to meet as many of you as possible. Please come to play golf or speed-learn with me.  Look forward to seeing you,

Steve Cheung
