Inaugural LA SPE Energy Transition Networking Event

THE INAUGURAL LA SPE ENERGY TRANSITION NETWORKING EVENT
Thursday April 11th 4pm to 7pm

We are very excited that the SPE Los Angeles Basin Section is hosting the inaugural Energy Transition Networking Event on April 11 (Thursday) from 4 to 7 pm. This enjoyable and informative evening will take place at the Navy Golf Course Club House, 5560 Orangewood Ave., Cypress CA 90630.

The event is being organized by the Section’s newly formed Energy Transition Study Group. You are invited to register for the event and engage with old acquaintances in the oil industry as well as with new people from energy transition technical areas such as geothermal, hydrogen, and carbon management. We welcome guests and friends. Sponsorship opportunities are also available (see attached brochure for details).

The events goals are to (1) provide a relaxed environment for networking with engineers, operators, service providers, geologists, scientists, educators and students who are interested in learning and be involved in the transition to green energy; (2) convey details on the Society of Petroleum Engineering’s expansions to other energy sources; (3) allow a forum to meet with members of the Study Group; and (4 hear from experts on the latest status of energy transition.

Below are the biographies of the three esteemed panel discussion leaders scheduled for April 11.

Geothermal

Richard Holt: Vice President of Resources, Geothermal Resource Group, Inc.

Richard Holt is a consulting geothermal reservoir engineering with over 25 years full-time experience in the geothermal industry. Richard’s educational background includes a Master’s degree from Stanford University and a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, both in Petroleum Engineering. Richard has provided consulting services to over 100 geothermal fields in 20 countries, including the energy producing American geothermal projects. Richard has worked directly with all types of resources found in the global geothermal industry, from low-enthalpy pumped hydrothermal wells in sedimentary rocks, to super-critical hypersaline high-enthalpy wells in fractured volcanics.

Hydrogen

Andrew López PE: Senior Project Engineer, Hydrogen Technical Team Lead, Burns & McDonnell

Andrew has 19 years of project engineering experience providing design services for crude oil, gasoline, diesel, ethylene, xylene, dense phase CO2, hydrogen, and natural gas pipelines. He is trained in performing process and pipe/equipment stress calculations and project management. Andrew’s master’s capstone research focused on CO2 transport and sequestration within Southern California, with an emphasis on creating a multi-directional CO2 pipeline network in the San Joaquin Valley. Andrew is experienced in ASME standards (B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, B31.12, and B31E). Andrew has also assisted on project permitting to the various air boards in California, the California Coastal Commission, the Army Corps of Engineers, and several city and county agencies. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters (ALM) in Sustainability and Environmental Management from Harvard University. He is currently leading the Pipeline & Facilities Hydrogen Technical Team at Burns & McDonnell.
