PetroBowl®

SPE’s flagship competition matches SPE Student Chapter teams against one another in a fast-paced quiz competition covering technical and non-technical aspects of the oil and gas industry. Teams from six regional qualifiers are seeded through to the final. Competitions take place in the Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe, Middle East, North America and South America and Caribbean before the final which takes place at the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE).

Please remember that as a competition for Student Chapters, therefore students and university faculty CANNOT apply for these roles.

Specification

  • Should be experienced in comparable roles of presenter/master of ceremony for programs or events of similar format
  • Confident English speaker, including technical industry terms
  • Planning to attend the PetroBowl Contest at ATCE (Calgary, Canada - Monday 30 September 2019)  
  • Familiarity with the PetroBowl program and format is advantageous

Duties include

  • Participate in volunteer briefing session(s) as required in advance of the contest
  • Pre-read questions before the event so as to gain familiarity with Question Set
  • Participate on the day to act as Master of Ceremonies; opening and closing remarks, reading out all questions and allocating points accordingly, and overall timekeeping.
  • Be the main point of contact during the competition
  • Ensuring teams abide by all policies as outlined in the PetroBowl Rules & Regulations
  • Consult judges as needed to determine the correctness of answers and in case appeals are raised
  • Responsible for the security of all copies of the Question Dataset on site
  • Announce the winners and present students with certificates of participation
  • Participate in debriefing session(s) as required following the contest

Time required

Moderators will be required for the full day of the contest and will be involved in discussions for preparation and debrief of the event.
