The Engineering Professionalism Committee (EPC) oversees the SPE Petroleum Engineering Certification Exam which is a globally recognized credential for petroleum engineering professionals. In an effort to add more items (questions) to the existing repository, EPC is inviting volunteers for the item writing process. The process will ensure that new items are added to the item pool on a regular basis. By taking on any of the volunteer positions, the member agrees to abide by the code of conduct.

1. Item Writer

Qualifications:

  • SPEC or PE designation preferred but not required.
  • 4-5 years of experience working in either Drilling, Production, or Reservoir Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Write 8-10 items per year in the chosen technical discipline.
  • Attend virtual meetings when required.
  • Review items are written by other authors (cannot write and review their own item).

Term Duration: While there is no term duration, it is recommended that the volunteers commit for 2 years.

Time Commitment:
5-6 hours per month

2. Reviewer

Qualifications:

  • SPEC or PE designation preferred but not required.
  • At least 8 years of experience working in either Drilling, Production, or Reservoir Engineering.

Responsibilities:

  • Review the item for their assigned discipline (cannot write and review their own item).
  • Attend meetings when needed to provide clarification on an item.

Term Duration: While there is no term duration, it is recommended that the volunteers commit for 2 years.

Time Commitment: 5-6 hours per month

3. Mock Test Taker

Qualifications:

  • SPEC or PE designation preferred but not required.
  • At least 4-5 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend 3-4 mock tests per year to review the items.
  • Record the time it takes to solve an item.
  • Provide feedback when an item is not approved.

Term Duration: While there is no term duration, it is recommended that the volunteers commit for 2 years.

Time Commitment:
5-6 hours per mock test
