About the Committee

The Distinguished Lecturer Committee oversees one of SPE’s flagship programs.  Each year, the Committee carefully selects topics and speakers for the Distinguished Lecturer Program, bringing top-tier in-person lectures and subject matter experts directly to SPE members.  The Committee is made up of 51 members, 36 standing members and 15 regional representatives from each of the SPE governance regions, serving a 3-year term.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A strong commitment to supporting member growth by identifying subject matter experts and promoting the sharing of technical knowledge through high-quality Distinguished Lecturer presentations.
  • Prefer past involvement as a Distinguished Lecturer or experience as a section leader.
  • SPE professional membership.

Expected Time Commitment

  • Participate in the online judging process in April to evaluate nominee submissions and identify potential lecturers.  Requires a significant time commitment to score and provide feedback on each submission reviewed.
  • Attend in person at least one of two Presentation Review (PR) meetings held annually in both hemispheres.  PR meetings are 2.5 days long and take place between August and October each year.
  • Serve as the point of contact for one to three potential lecturers in preparation for the in-person presentation review.
  • 3-year term

Deliverables and Expectations

  • Solicit Distinguished Lecturer (DL) nominations to be considered by the Committee. Each Committee member is asked to nominate at least two persons/season.
  • Select potential lecturers based on their qualifications and the quality of their PowerPoint presentation so they can move forward to a live audition before members of the Committee.
  • Actively participate in both rounds of judging to select lecturers.
  • Serve as the point of contact for one to three potential lecturers in preparation for the live audition.
