This opportunity is open for volunteers to moderate our prestigious International Student Paper Contest. This will take place at the Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition (ATCE) Calgary, Canada. The contest will take place on Tuesday 1 October 2019 and some preparation work will be required before the event. As a volunteer opportunity no funding can be provided towards attending ATCE. 

SPE coordinates 14 regional student paper contests at the Undergraduate, Master's, and PhD level across the world and the international contest brings the winners from each division in each region to present together on a global stage. We require at least four Judges and one Moderator to help run each division.

Moderators are expected to:

  • Participate in volunteer briefing session(s) as required in advance of the contest
  • Participate on the day to act as Master of Ceremonies; opening and closing remarks and overall timekeeping.
  • Moderate the Q&A sessions following the presentations
  • Oversee the collection and calculation of the scores as provided by the judges.
  • Announce the winners and present students with certificates of participation
  • Participate in debriefing session(s) as required following the contest

Eligibility:

SPC volunteers must be:

  • Approved by the host group / SPE Staff responsible for the organization of the contest
  • SPE members in good standing
  • Preferred previous experience in similar style contests
  • Personal interest in developing university students
  • Effective communication
  • Able and intending to attend ATCE 2019 in Calgary, Canada (Tuesday 1 October 2019)
  • Preferably a Young Professional
