Drilling Automation - From Drilling 'Faster' to Drilling 'Smarter
by Mats Andersen, Alf Fredvik, NOV

NOV Automation allows you to safely extend your operating limits, which helps utilize the full capabilities of your rig and can deliver significant spud-to-TD performance improvements. The technology developments and field experiences have changed from being all about ROP, to delivering consistency and repeatability, incorporating real-time pressure visualization for reservoir sections to be extended, and now enabling a complete digital workflow from plan via execution to reporting.

Mats started with ReedHycalog drill bits in 2000. Held various sales and key account positions looking after operators across Scandinavia in addition to 2 years in Russia. Moved further into business development work when becoming part of NOV in 2008 and took the lead on drilling optimization offerings. These have further been developed with WDP technology and implemented into NOV Automation. Now project sales responsible for integrated NOV solutions in Europe & Sub-Saharan Africa within Wellbore Technologies segment and its product portfolio. Holds a Bachelor degree in Petroleum Technology from University in Stavanger.

Alf started with NOV Rig Technonlogy in 2012 as Project Manager for delivery of Drilling Equipment Packages (DEP) to the offshore JU, semi and drillship market. Moved in 2016 to the product line group to take on responsibility for the Controls and Automation product lines in NOV Rig Technology. Holds a Master in Computer Science from  the University in Trondheim (NTNU) and a Bachelor in Economy from the University in Agder (UIA). Has a background from Ericsson and Elkem.
