The Open Source Drilling Community (OSDC), partially hosted by Texas A&M University, was established to enable open-source development and release of tools for drilling. We highlight the need for and benefits of open-source models and provide an overview of current activity in the OSDC including the drillstring dynamics, hydraulics, and bit-rock interaction models and tools that have been developed.
