Abstract:
Numerical simulation of hydraulic fractures and production performance is a valuable tool for evaluating historical data, requiring physics-based hypotheses to explain and match historical observations, and for testing "new" landing, spacing and completion concepts for field development scenarios. In this presentation, we review a simulation study applied to the northeast region of the Marcellus to develop multiple benches. We will also present observations from Utica simulation studies.
Bio:
Joseph H. Frantz Jr is CEO of Frantz & Associates LLC, a consulting company working in the upstream oil and gas sector. He works with ResFrac and Deep Well Services where he is a Senior Executive Advisor. From 2009-2019 he worked at Range Resources as the VP of Engineering in the Marcellus, Upper Devonian and Utica plays and then as VP of Engineering Technology at a corporate level. Prior to Range, he was President and CEO of Unbridled Energy, a public startup oil and gas company. Joe started working on shale reservoirs in 1984 with Getty Oil and Texaco in California. He has been involved with completion and reservoir simulation projects in shale reservoirs for many decades. Joe has worked in all facets of the upstream oil and gas industry.
Joe also worked as a consultant for 16 years with S.A. Holditch and Schlumberger DCS where he managed offices in PA and OK. He has authored or co-authored more than 60 publications and taught several industry courses. He was awarded the Eastern Regional Service Award and the Completions Technology and Optimization Awards. Joe continues to serve on numerous Technical Committees within SPE and proudly worked as a Regional Director for the SPEI Board for three years. He is a two-time Distinguished Lecturer with SPE. He earned a BSc in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 1981. He says…We Are.
