I hope that everyone has been enjoying this great weather that we have been having as well as some of the SPE events that have been hosted in the last few weeks.
This month’s Luncheon will feature Lori Dalrymple, CEO of AOC and she will be speaking to the topic of “Soft Skills for Hard Times: How to Succeed in the Industry Downturn.” Lori will discuss the importance of soft skills in the rebounding industry and how, when paired with technical skills, can set individuals apart from their peers. In May, we will be hosting JJ Xiao of Saudi Aramco and his talk concerning Enhancing Production with ESPs, and in June, our own Mark Van Domelen of Downhole Chemical Solutions will be presenting on “Developing the Next Generation of Completion Engineers.” Signups for all luncheons through June are now available.
I want to extend a special thanks to our Oil and Gas Symposium committee for the excellent job they did planning and executing this year’s symposium. I felt it was an excellent event and enjoyed the session presentations, the exhibition, and the STACK/SCOOP panel discussion. We had over 1000 attendees this year and I have heard great feedback from those I have spoken to. I also want to say thank you to our many sponsors, exhibitors, and speakers, without which, this even would not have been nearly as successful as it was.
In addition to the Symposium, we recently hosted our third installment of the SPE OKC spirits tasting, which featured Scotch whiskeys. We had over 40 attendees and all enjoyed an amazing dinner and whiskey pairings with each course. I thought that the pork chop, in particular, was paired perfectly with a 12 year Glendronach, which really brought to life the flavors of both food and beverage. We are already planning to continue these social events and our next tasting will be either rum or vodka.
Now that spring is in full force, we are redoubling our SPE Cares efforts and have two events planned for the coming months. The first, will be May 4th with our long time community partners, Willow Springs Boys Ranch. They will be hosting volunteers out at the ranch for a “spring cleaning" and to enjoy a game of touch football or kickball. The second is a work day with Habitat for Humanity on June 22nd. These events are a great opportunity to give back to our local community and have a notable impact on how the community views our industry.
Registration for the spring SPE OKC Golf Tournament is open, and will be held on Friday, May 10th at John Conrad in Midwest City. There will be an AM and PM flight, SPE polo shirts as well as mulligans are on sale, and hole sponsorships are available. As always, we will have some great raffle prizes and awards will be given to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams.
Have a great month and look forward to seeing you at our events!
