  • Notes From The Chair - August 2020

    Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone had a great past month and as we enter August, I wanted to share some great news with you.

I am extremely pleased to announce that the Oklahoma City Section has been awarded the Section Excellence Award for 2020. This prestigious award is the second highest honor a section may receive and is awarded to only 20% of eligible sections around the world. The award is in recognition of the section’s hard work and strong programs in industry engagement, operations and planning, community involvement, professional development, and innovation. I’d like to congratulate last year’s chair Shahd Tarar and the rest of the Executive Committee on this well-deserved award that recognizes their hard work and dedication.

In light of the current COVID-19 situation, we have made the decision to continue having virtual events for August in consideration of the safety and well-being of our attendees. Here is a list of these upcoming events we have planned for you:

    • Thursday, August 20th | August Monthly Luncheon with Dan Pickering, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Pickering Energy Partners
    • Thursday, August 27th | Production Study Group

We hope you find these multi-faceted live virtual events useful and informative. In addition, we still plan to host the following events in person while honoring the social distancing guidelines:

    • Friday, September 18th | 27th Annual SPE OKC Sporting Clays Event
    • Friday, September 25th | SPE Annual Awards Banquet

We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation and if the need arises, we will re-schedule these in-person events accordingly as the health of our event attendees is of utmost importance to us.

I am also excited to share with you that SPE OKC will be awarding $15,000 in scholarships to eleven recipients. The award recipients for this year are a diverse group, ranging from high-school dependents of our SPE members to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing energy focused degrees at University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Tulsa and Missouri University of Science and Technology. We were very impressed by the strength and quality of the numerous applications we received and thank the applicants for giving us the opportunity to review their application. These scholarships are a part of our strong commitment to give back to our community and support the future minds of our industry, especially during these challenging times.

Looking to the remainder of year, I am optimistic about the resilience and recovery of our industry, and wish all of you good health, success and safety.

    Warm Regards,

    Danish Tarar
